Sit Down and Listen to Hooverphonic
    Thu 7 Nov ’24

A rock band and a string quartet? Hooverphonic proves that they blend together wonderfully on November 7 at Muziekgebouw Eindhoven. Twenty years after their first acoustic tour, the popular Belgian rock band travels through venues accompanied by, indeed, a string quartet. The motto during the performance in Muziekgebouw Eindhoven is; Sit Down and Listen to Hooverphonic. A command that sounds like music to the ears and immediately clarifies what this promising evening is all about. This special performance promises pure music, stripped down to the core. Enjoy an evening of evergreens centred on the pure vocals of Geike Arnaert. A magical journey through Hooverphonic's career, where they are moving without being overwhelming.

  • Lady Blackbird

    Raw, mysterious, and soulful jazz
    Thu 28 Nov ’24

Although you can hear influences from icons such as Billie Holiday, Gladys Knight, Tina Turner, and Chaka Khan in her music, American singer Lady Blackbird's style is entirely her own. Jazz, soul, gospel, psychedelic rock, and pop: she combines it all into one rich sound. She broke through in 2021 with her debut album 'Black Acid Soul,' where her powerful, smoky voice shines like no other. The album was recorded in the famous Studio B of Sunset Sound in Los Angeles, in the same room where Prince's 'Purple Rain' was written. She did this with a fantastic live band, including former Miles Davis pianist Deron Johnson. In September, her follow-up 'Slang Spirituals' will be released, which she will showcase in our Hertog Jan Zaal!

At the Amsterdam Conservatory, the young musicians of The Fried Seven discovered their shared love for early jazz, the jazz of the 1920s and 1930s. The band excels at revitalizing these early styles. Their swinging repertoire includes songs by artists like Louis Armstrong, Jelly Roll Morton, King Oliver, and Duke Ellington, but they also perform their own arrangements. In January, they released their debut album 'Late to the Party'. This album features a mix of classic jazz numbers and new original pieces, through which they vividly honor traditional jazz and introduce new ideas.

On the cusp of this Bruckner year 2024 (Bruckner was born 200 years ago), we celebrate this 'composer of monumental buildings' together with Shani and his Rotterdammers.

There will be a free introduction at 7:30 PM, co-sponsored by the Friends of Muziekgebouw Eindhoven.
