Jazz, soul Jazz, soul, and blues in orchestral collaboration
    Fri 7 Feb ’25

Cécile McLorin Salvant was hailed by De Volkskrant as one of the best jazz singers of her generation. The New York Times mentions her in the same breath as the three great voices of jazz: Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughan, and Ella Fitzgerald. Yet, the American singer sounds anything but nostalgic. Instead, she gives a fresh, modern twist to well-known and lesser-known gems from jazz, soul, and blues, sung in both English and French. She smoothly and elegantly incorporates elements of vaudeville, folk, world music, pop, and baroque music. This fall, together with the rich sound of the Metropole Orkest and her enchanting voice, Salvant will be coming to Eindhoven!

  • Tess Merlot Quartet

    Chanteuse of the Netherlands
    Blue Note ClubSessions
    Sat 8 Mar ’25

The first time Tess Merlot heard Jacques Brel, lightning struck. Since then, the music hasn't stopped. She formed the band Tess et les Moutons, and hundreds of shows later, every performance still revolves around the essence: bringing the human soul to the surface as only the French chanson can. For her second album 'Chante la vie,' she searched for words and melodies to express new changes in her life. The disappearance of the parental home and the connection to childhood, the loss of a loved one, and the transience of friendships. But also the positive aspects of personal growth, the evolution of a long-lasting love, and the realization that, once adults, we continue to take leaps into the unknown.

Yet, it is perhaps Avishai Cohen's own compositions and his physical playing style that leave the most lasting impression. Today, he is known for his unmistakable style and technical perfection. Place this bass hero alongside the Metropole Orkest and chief conductor Jules Buckley, and an unforgettable evening is guaranteed. Together, they will perform both new compositions and Cohen's most beautiful works.
