This afternoon, the Spanish vocalist Paloma Lázaro Arteaga is presenting her debut album "Ritual", a versatile blend of musical inspirations. She performs with her regular group consisting of Joost Lijbaart (drums & percussion), Sjoerd van Eijck (piano), and Johannes Fend (double bass). Influences such as J.S. Bach, Avishai Cohen, Silvio Rodriguez, and Tigran Hamasyan play a role in her work, where jazz, pop, world music, and free improvisation come together. As a singer, Paloma is further influenced by Mercedes Sosa, Loreena McKennitt, Simin Tander, and Silvia Perez Cruz. "Ritual" is an ode to ancestors, the primitive, and nature. Rituals have been important in many societies but seem to be disappearing in modern times. With this album, Paloma aims to connect ancient rituals with music and art.
