In the 1980s, drummer Lucas van Merwijk often watched the duo Misha Mengelberg & Han Bennink perform. Lucas dreamt of forming a similar duo where he would have unlimited freedom as a drummer. Since then, Van Merwijk has started many different music projects in various formations, ranging from Cuban music to global groove, jazz, and improvisation. Now, he has finally found the perfect partner in trombonist Ilja Reijngoud, who shares the same desire for musical freedom, improvisation, and experimentation. Together, they embark on a new, unique, and exciting musical adventure.

Drummer Lucas van Merwijk has been a prominent figure in the European Latin, jazz, and percussion scene for over 30 years. After intensive studies in Afro-Cuban drums, Lucas became actively involved as a drummer and percussionist in numerous groups and artists in the Netherlands and Europe. He also leads various ensembles including The Soul of Spanish Harlem, The Cubop City Big Band, Van Merwijk's Music Machine, and the international world percussion group Drums United.

Trombonist Ilja Reijngoud is a permanent member of the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw, The Houdini's, The Cubop City Big Band, Lucas van Merwijk Music Machine, and The Jasper van 't Hof Quartet. He leads several small groups and teaches at the Amsterdam and Rotterdam conservatoires. Ilja has collaborated with various notable artists such as Ivan Lins, James Morrison, Pat Metheny and Dori Caymmi. He has also performed regularly with the Metropole Orchestra.

The Blue Note ClubCard comes with a unique code that allows you to book a ticket in advance on our website. The ClubCard itself does not grant access to the concert, so it's important to order your ticket in advance. The Blue Note ClubCard is valid for all Blue Note ClubSessions until July 2024 – the entire 2023/2024 season.

If you choose to pick up the Blue Note ClubCard at our ticket office, don't forget to bring the order confirmation. Alternatively, you can have the ClubCard delivered to your home for an additional fee.

Timetable

Doors at M open at 4:00 PM where you can already enjoy a drink and the music of a jazz DJ. The live concert starts at 5:00 PM and will last until 6:15 PM. Finishing the event, the jazz DJ will play until 7:00 PM.
